We did a little bed/room re-arranging this weekend! Meridian at 2.5 was still in a crib and it was actually quite comical because depending on where she put her head, her feet would come out the end. So after much talk about what we officially wanted to do with the beds/room situation, we decided to do some switching.
Meridian and Zoelle have been sharing a room with Zoelle in a toddler bed and Meridian in the crib. This weekend, we got Zoelle a new twin bed (which is actually a bunk bed separated) and let Meridian have Zoelle's old toddler bed. The whole day we were setting it up and re-arranging the room, the girls were beyond excited. They could barely sit still, but by nap time the beds were up and ready! We didn't officially use the room until bedtime and this mama was nervous. While Zoelle never dared to get out her bed when she was 2, I knew Meridian is a much different girl and very adventurous. I was pleasantly surprised that she ended up sleeping all night. Night two she did get into bed with Zoelle (which was adorable), but that did have her waking up multiple times at night. However, she didn't do any exploring, she just came right to me. Being that I am a light sleeper I was happy that each time I heard her wake up and was there to meet her right away. Meridian once again did well last night and although she is getting up about a half hour earlier in the morning than she was before, I am very surprised at how well the transition went.
Zoelle has done wonderfully in her new big bed and while mama thought it was going to swallow her up, she seems to love it! Plus an added bonus is that we can do extra snuggle time together before bed! We both love that!
When we took Meridian's crib down we were left with where to store it? Our house is not large and we are slowly running out of storage space. Xiomara, when not co-sleeping with us, has been sleeping in a pack n' play in a spare bedroom. Chris had the bright idea to switch that bedroom around a bit (we have a piano in there as well) and set up our crib. So that is just what we did! I LOVE it! It's been a few years since I've been able to have the canopy on our round crib and it just really ties her room together a bit more.
I hope now that the next time we have to do any re-arranging it will be in a new house! :)
At what age did your child switch to a bed? Did you go straight to a big bed, or did you transition first with a toddler bed?
We went from crib to big boy bed with Ethan, and with Abram he and Ethan wanted to share a bed when Abram was done with the crib, and to this day at 9 and 6 they still share a bed. They sleep SOOO much better together than apart and neither mind. Ethan transitioned from crib to bed around 2 years old or so and Abram was closer to 3.
ReplyDeleteOh now I don't feel so bad having Meridian in a crib until 2.5!! Zoelle switched right around 2 so I was feeling guilty. I kind of wish they keep sleeping together because they are adorable when they do, but so far Meridian has a tough time when she does. Maybe again someday!!
DeleteThe girls look so happy in their new beds! We always switched out kids to the next bed when the next baby was born. With our last one, we had 4 kids in a 3 bedroom house with no extra room so she slept in the pack-n-play until we moved so we could put it away during open houses. She was six months old when she finally got to sleep in a real crib.
ReplyDeleteThey were SO happy! :) I always felt a bit bad that Xio was in a pack n' play but other then buy another crib, or switch Meridian way before she was ready, I didn't have an option. I think more people do that then I think though!
DeleteOur oldest went into a toddler bed on his second birthday and did well. Our second born went into the toddler bed in his brother's room (brother went onto the bottom of bunk beds) from the crib in his own room at 22 months. I was really nervous as I had no intentions of moving him that early but he was freaking out one night, so we did it and he did great. I did use a gate for the doorway though as the bedroom was upstairs. Our third went into a full size bed (hand me down from great-grandma's spare room) when she was 2 years and 2 1/2 months old (New Year's Day!) and did great. For the life of me I can't remember when our fourth went into a bed! Horrible mama moment. I'm guessing it was a little over 2. It was the top of the bunk bed, so we kept the rail on it and that worked great.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love the horrible mama moment! I have those too! ;) And oh my goodness that top bunk bed at that age would really scare me!! But I bet she loved it! :)
DeleteYour girls are all WAY too beautiful. :) My oldest was never in a crib. We has a bassinette (sp?) which she never used...she was a cosleeper until it was time for her to have her own 'big girl' (twin sized) bed. I think she was 3. My 7 year old was in a crib until she was 2, then a bunk bed with her older sister. The baby was out of a bed and into a twin bed by the time she was 13 months old. SHe started to climb out of her crib at 11 months, and I was terrified she would break her neck. HOWEVER....she STILL rarely uses her bed. Most nights, I wake up and she is right at the foot of my bed, or cuddled up under daddy. (She figured out that if she can sneak past me and make it to him, shes home free. He doesnt make her go back to bed.) #inconsistantparenting. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you Elizabeth! Zoelle was pretty much a co-sleeper as well, except some of the time she did sleep in a crib. Meridian was crawling out of her crib (like catapulting herself out) and I was too worried she would hurt herself, so we made the switch. Even though I know you don't like it, I do think it is pretty cute that she knows to sneak past you and go to daddy in order to get in bed! Ha! :)
